Languages of the World

There are 7’000 languages in the world. How different are they from one another and what do they all have in common? These are the most basic questions of the discipline of general linguistics. In this class, we will be surveying language families and will move through the different parts of the world to explore both phylogenetic and areal patterns in various aspects of language structure.
