Introduction to Performance Studies and Recording Analysis

Musical performance studies is a discipline that has grown immensely in the last 20 years. In order to understand the complexities of performance, research has investigated it in various ways. The use of recordings is one of them. This seminar offers an introduction to this discipline of musicology, with a focus on the study of performance through the analysis of recordings with the software Sonic Visualiser. Students will analyse selected recordings with this software and discuss their results and conclusions in class.
